Commission Extends Time for Claiming VAT Refunds for 2009 to March 2011

The Commission has adopted a proposal to postpone the deadline for the submission of VAT refund claims related to 2009 from September 2010 to March 2011.  This arises as a result of the late implementation by some Member States of the new VAT refund procedures, which came into force on 1 January 2010,, and other technical difficulties with the new system. The Commission proposes harmonising some features of the national VAT refund web portals in order to make them more accessible for taxpayers.
