Revenue Annual Report 2009

22 April 2010

Revenue's Annual Report for 2009 has been published today and is available here

Revenue Chairman Josephine Feehily noted in her opening comments on the report that

"Our support for viable businesses experiencing short-term difficulties is continuing this year where necessary.  Having said that, our focus remains firmly on securing timely compliance and payment of tax. We cannot and will not be a banker or a lender of last resort, and we must deliver our support to business in a way that ensures that we do not put compliant businesses at a competitive disadvantage."

She also noted the impact of staff losses on Revenue and the need to continually organise and re-engineer Revenue's services to manage with less, and rebuilding their capability by recruitment and training, as key priorities for 2010.

The report notes that net receipts amounted to €33.28 billion, down €7.79 billion against the corresponding figure for 2008, and €14 billion less than 2007

  • Total audit and assurance check activity yielded €670.3 million from 373,718 interventions.
  • Ireland's Tax treaty network was extended significantly: 7 new Treaties and 13 Tax Information Exchange Agreements concluded and signed; a further 6 Treaties concluded and awaiting signature.
