Speaker Profiles

John Heffernan has over thirty years’ experience in advising international clients, larger indigenous clients, property developers and investors. He has lectured extensively in Ireland and abroad on a wide range of tax issues. John is a Fellow of the Irish Taxation Institute (awarded on foot of his thesis on the Patent Income Exemption) and is a Tax Partner in Ernst & Young, Limerick.

Tom Kavanagh is one of Ireland’s leading insolvency experts, having carried out many high profile assignments over the years, including many on the instructions of Ireland’s major Financial Institutions, Companies and State Agencies. Tom set up the firm Kavanagh Fennell in 1997 and the firm has grown rapidly to become market leader in Ireland in recent years. His main area of focus is in the area of Receiverships, Examinerships, and Turnarounds. Tom is the author of A Practical Guide to Insolvency which was launched recently is association with Chartered Accountants Ireland. Kavanagh Fennell facilitate the Irish insolvency news website http://www.insolvencyjournal.ie/. Tom is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland and holds a UK Insolvency Licence. He is a Member of the Irish Society of Insolvency Practitioners.

Gavin McGuire is a Partner with Eversheds O’Donnell Sweeney. He regularly advises on the tax and legal aspects of M&A transactions, corporate finance, private equity, inward investment and Revenue and Customs litigation. He is admitted as a Solicitor in Ireland, England & Wales. He is a Registered Tax Consultant and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation in the UK. He has lectured for the Irish Taxation Institute and written for the Irish Tax Review on various topics.
