Jacqueline Gray - Deloitte

While working in the audit department I learned a great deal about corporate business and the issues facing companies, but I wanted to advise clients on one of the most important aspects facing business each day – taxation.  So I chose to do AITI and gain the profession's most recognised qualification.

What I enjoy about the role is that everyday is different and fast moving. Clients call daily with queries. For me, the most interesting of all is getting exposure to advising multinational companies and plc’s on the tax implications of proposed transactions and/or advising on the most tax efficient corporate structures.

I am responsible for ensuring that the corporate tax compliance obligations of my portfolio of clients are met. This includes ensuring that the correct amount of tax is paid and that tax filings and payments are timely. In addition to compliance work, I advise clients on consultancy matters, which involve complex tax issues, which clients bring to us on an ad hoc basis.

I get a great sense of satisfaction from the advice we give to clients who are very appreciative of our efforts. We are extremely busy at times and under pressure, but you do get a great feeling of achievement in completing a project.

Being a Registered Tax Consultant is not all about preparing and filing personal and corporate tax returns. It is about advising clients on the relevant legislation and the most tax efficient way of doing business. It’s not all about numbers, it’s about problem solving and your clients will turn to you for that invaluable advice.
