Irish Taxation Institute: Educating, Developing and Representing

Tax was an area that I was always interested in during college and after I graduated, I worked in the area of corporate tax. Having completed my contract and attained my AITI tax exams,  I decided that I wanted to work outside an taxation firm but still be heavily involved in Tax. Joining Tax Computer Systems – who design tax software – ticked all the boxes. It allowed me to work in a very dynamic environment whilst using all my tax knowledge.

What I really enjoy about the role is having the countries largest accountancy firms and companies depend on our knowledge and ability to deliver software to them under tight deadlines. Also, seeing people embrace our software – it is great to see recognition for hard work. One of my best career experiences to date ws passing my Irish Taxation Institute tax exams. It opened a lot of career opportunities for me.

In my role I am responsible for managing the business and ensuring that our customers are in receipt of quality software and that our growth targets are achieved.  Depending on the time of year, my days can be quite varied. The common threads involve product development, assisting customers, sales calls and cash flow management and also keeping up-to-date with the latest tax changes to ensure our software reflects the effects of any new legislation.

To succeed as a Registered Tax Consultant, you need to have an eye for detail, the ability to communicate clearly and a strong work ethic!
